We collaborate with you and tailor the editing and proofreading services based on your document, manuscript, or other material you need reviewed.  Editing services can be combined.  As such, this is more of a menu with brief explanations.

We offer 7 levels of editing including:

Fact checking or QA/QC

Fact checking is a review of your document to make sure that references, citations, and facts are accurate.  

​

QA/QC is a review to ensure that your final deliverable meets professional standards and expectations listed within your scope of work.

​

Structural edit

A structural edit is a large overview to ensure the story as a whole and its parts provide a strong story.  The focus is on identifying weaknesses of the flow.  This is similar to a developmental edit but stops at overall layout.

Developmental edit

Developmental edit is a high level perspective of your document as a whole.  It includes characters, motives, primary points, supporting points, logic, voice, pacing, etc.  How well is the story developed?

​

Content edit

Content editing focuses on facts and clarity of your document to ensure it has the most impact on the reader. 

​

Line edit

A line edit focuses only on the narrative sentence by sentence.  It focuses on ensuring the voice, tone, etc. are consistent and impactful.  A line edit will also identify grammatical errors.

​

Copy edit

Copy edit will focus on grammatical errors, spelling, punctuation, tone, syntax, etc. It will also address awkward phrasing or identify areas that may need massaging.  A great copy edit will catch what was missed through the previous editing sieves.

Proofreading

Proofreading is your final check of all things grammatical in your fully formatted document prior to publication.  It is a word by word final review.  It will also check to make sure the table of contents are accurate, headings are formatted consistently, etc.  In an ideal world, your proofreading edit should result in very few and minor changes.
